A CBMT Approved Provider is an institution, agency or organization that is approved by CBMT to issue Continuing Music Therapy Education (CMTE) credit to Certificants for participation in continuing education activities. CBMT Approved Providers are an essential component of the Recertification process. More than 90% of over 5,000 MT-BCs choose the continuing education option to maintain their board certification by accruing at least 100 CMTE credits per five-year cycle. Many of the credits they claim are awarded by CBMT Approved Providers. CBMT invites any interested party that has the education of music therapy professionals and/or those in related fields as part of its mission to consider applying as a CBMT Approved Provider. The application process, detailed in the There are two categories of CBMT Approved Provider status: Two-Year Provisional and Five-Year status. At the end of the Two-Year Provisional cycle, CMTE courses that were offered are reviewed as the Provider applies for Five-Year status. Providers with Five-Year status will be audited once during the first five-year cycle to document compliance with the standards, and may then apply for renewal of their Five-Year status at the end of that cycle. Approved Providers may also apply to offer a Specialty CMTE Course, a format which offers opportunities for specialized studies. The CBMT Continuing Education Committee (CEC) reviews all applications promptly and will contact applicants 6-8 weeks from the date applications are received in the CBMT office regarding approval status.
